Due to COVID-19 pandamic, this year’s NJS Concerto Competition has been cancelled.

We look forward to a successful NJS Concerto Competition in 2021.

    New Jersey Sinfonietta(NJS), a young and rising orchestra, proudly presents NJS Concerto Competition, 2020. The competition aims to identify promising new talent and help develop performing skills of the young musicians.

    AWARDS
  • Grand Prizes: Three top scored winners out of all contestants will be awarded Grand Prizes. Grand Prize winners will be given the opportunity to perform with NJS Chamber Orchestra at Merkin Concert Hall on August 30, 2020.
  • 1st & 2nd Prize: Opportunity to perform with piano accompaniment at Merkin Concert Hall
  • 3rd Prize: Certificate of Outstanding Achievement
  • Multiple winners will be chosen from the each age categories by the jury’s decision.

    ELIGIBILITY
  • The competition is open to Piano, String and Woodwind players in the following age categories at the time of live audition (TBA).
  • Group A: Age 9-12
  • Group B: Age 13-15
  • Group C: Age 16-18
  • Group D: Age 19-22

  • REPERTOIRE
  • One movement of a standard concerto or any concert piece for which orchestral accompaniments are available (from the Baroque, Classical or Romantic period).

  • HOW TO APPLY
  • On-line application must be submitted by TBA.
  • Application fee ($150) is non-refundable and can be paid only by PayPal or credit cards.
  • An email acknowledgment will be sent within one week of submission.

  • All audition pieces must be performed by memory.
  • Piano accompaniment is required at the audition.
  • Participants must arrange for their own pianists for the live audition. If you need a list of available pianists, please contact us at [email protected].
  • Participants are required to provide copies of the music for the jury at the time of their audition.
  • The Jury's decisions are final and beyond appeal.

  • OPTION FOR YOUTUBE LINK SUBMISSION
  • We strongly encourage all the participants to attend the live audition, but those who are unable to attend may send a YouTube link of their performances.
  • YouTube links must be submitted with the online application.
  • Video recording must be within past three months prior to the application deadline.

    WINNERS’ CONCERT INFORMATION
  • Sunday, August 30, 2020 at 3:00 PM
    Merkin Concert Hall, NYC
  • Three Grand Prize winners will perform with the NJS Chamber Orchestra. (Winners should discuss about the performance repertoire with our music director prior to the concert.) Performance time for the Grand Prize winners should not exceed 10 minutes.
  • 1st, 2nd Prize winners will perform solo piece with piano accompaniment and must arrange their own accompanists for the concert. Performance time must not exceed 7 minutes. Performers should provide their own cuts, if necessary.
  • Winners Concert Fees
    Grand Prize winners: $350 (6 guest tickets)
    1st, 2nd Prize winners: $250 (4 guest tickets)
  • Grand, 1st and 2nd prize winners must perform at the winners’ concerts to receive awards. Winners who cannot perform on August 30 will be disqualified and alternates will perform in the winners’ places.
